Privacy

This site has no advertising trackers and builds no profiles. There are no visitor accounts and no newsletter. Page views are counted, without cookies and without recognising you between visits — see below.

Recommendations

When you recommend a café we store three things: the café's id, the current quarter, and two checksums — one derived from a random identifier in a cookie, the other from your IP address. Both are hashed with a secret key and cannot be reversed.

We store no email address, no name, and no IP address in the clear. The IP checksum exists only to slow down bulk voting.

Cookies

cz_voter is set the first time you recommend a café. It holds a random identifier and nothing else, and only stops the same café being counted twice in a quarter. If you never recommend anything, it is never set.

visited is set by the Buy Me a Coffee donation button, as each page loads and without any action from you. It only records that you have been here before, so the prompt does not open on every visit.

Third parties

• Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a real person is clicking. It receives your IP address and browser data, and loads only when you press the like button.
• Fathom Analytics counts page views so we know what gets read. Fathom sets no cookies, issues no cross-site identifier and builds no profile; your IP is processed briefly to count the visit and is not stored. The data is ours and is not shared.
• swisstopo serves the map tiles once you open the map.
• Buy Me a Coffee provides the donation button in the bottom right. Its script loads on every page rather than on click, which hands Buy Me a Coffee your IP address and browser data. A donation itself happens on their site, under their privacy policy.
